Once on scene officers found two vehicles, a 2007 Honda Shadow motorcycle and a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee that were both severely damaged.

During the investigation it was discovered that the motorcycle was traveling south on Neptune Avenue, approaching the intersection of Archwood Avenue, when the driver ran the stop sign, entering the intersection and striking the Jeep that was traveling East on Archwood Avenue, police said.

The Jeep rolled onto its top during the crash.

Police said the driver of the Jeep climbed out of the vehicle and left the scene before police arrived. A passenger of the Jeep was extracted by the Akron Fire Department and transported to Akron City Hospital with unknown injuries.

The 26-year-old driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Police said the motorcycle the man was driving was previously reported stolen.

Speed and running the stop sign appear to be factors in the crash police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
