Massillon man nabbed as police seize drugs, scales

Police say the suspect had been selling heroin.

MASSILLON A man wanted in Michigan was arrested after police said they pulled him over and found bags of heroin, digital scales and hundreds of dollars.

Massillon Police say Devell R. Knight, 31, listed in jail records as homeless, lied about his name and date of birth when they stopped him for a traffic violation about 7 p.m. Wednesday in the 1800 block of Southway Street SE.

According to Stark County Jail records, as they were placing handcuffs on him, they could see two digital scales and a bag in his pocket. The bag contained illegal drugs.

They also found three bags of heroin and $632.

When they got him to the jail, they realized he’d provided a false name, the jail records show.

When he eventually provided his true identity, officers discovered a “full extradition warrant” issued by authorities in Michigan.

Michigan Department of Corrections records show Knight has been on the run since Dec. 2, an absconder from parole. He had been convicted of a home invasion robbery with a firearm in 2006 in the Wayne County portion of Detroit. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison before his release on parole. His release date was not available.

He was booked into the Stark jail on charges of heroin trafficking, falsification and obstructing official business. He remained behind bars Thursday, held without bond, the jail records show.
