JACKSON TWP. Township police called to check on a car from the Barberton area found it, but when they questioned the man who’d just gotten out of it, he ran away.

Then they found a loaded gun.

Brett T. Roderick, 27, of Wadsworth, lied to police about his name, according to Stark County Jail records.

Police initially found him about 1:15 a.m. outside a hotel in the 6800 block of Sunset Strip Avenue NW where they found the car for which Barberton Police had asked them to search, the jail records show.

When they pulled up to the car, he got out of it and began to answer their questions, supplying them with a false name and birth date, the jail records show. They quickly determined the name and date were not correct and, when they tried to place handcuffs on him, he ran away.

Officers also found the loaded Ruger handgun in the car.

Roderick was jailed on charges of resisting arrest, obstructing official business and having weapons under disability. He was also held for another police department on unspecified charges.

He remained behind bars later Monday, held without bond.
