CANTON A Stark County man was charged with attempted robbery after he demanded money at a bank.

Edward R. Madison, 51, of Canton, approached the doors of Huntington Bank at 220 Market Ave. S and asked an employee for all of the bank’s money, according to court records.

The incident occurred about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, police reported.

After the employee didn’t comply with his orders, Madison picked up the black bag he brought with him, according to police.

The bank employee believed the man may have had a weapon in the bag, fearing for her own safety as well as that of fellow employees, court records said.

Madison was arrested about 5 p.m. in the 2600 block of Sixth Street SW.

Court and arrest records didn’t provide further details on the attempted heist.

Madison is being held in the Stark County Jail in lieu of bond.

A status conference is scheduled for the case Thursday in Canton Municipal Court.
