Akron police said four people were hurt in shootings Thursday.

Officers first responded to a shot fired call about 7:30 a.m. near Sylvan Avenue and Firestone Boulevard in Firestone Park. Police said shell casings and other evidence were found at the scene, and witnesses told police they saw people in two vehicles shooting at each other.

A short time later, officers were sent to investigate at Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where a 23-year-old man who had been shot in the wrist who was dropped off. He told officers he was walking at Sylvan Avenue and Barbara Avenue when he was shot.

Police said a car that they believe was involved was found on North Jenkins Boulevard.

Just before 2 p.m., officers were sent to the second shooting on Royal Place in North Hill. Witnesses told police they saw a vehicle speeding away from the scene. During the investigation, police were told of a man, 28, who was shot and taken to Summa Akron City Hospital by an acquaintance.

When officers arrived, they were told the man was shot in the hip by an unknown gunman.

Police said another man, 38, was found shot about 2:225 p.m. when officers arrived at the 400 block of Bacon Avenue to check on a report of gunfire.

Officers found the wounded man on the ground. Police said he was shot in the leg by an unknown gunman after a quarrel. He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General.

Police responded to a fourth shooting about 10 p.m. near West Long Street and Edison Avenue in the Summit Lake area. Officers found a man, 36, on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. He told police he was riding his bike when he was approached by an unknown male, who shot him.

Police said he was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where he is expected to recover from his injuries.
