UPDATE: Canton man charged with murder of Renee Russell

A man has been charged for the shooting death of Renee Russell, who was found dead in her car on Harmont Avenue in March. Police had been looking for Tahi A. Nelson since the incident and found him hiding in an apartment.

CANTON Police arrested a Canton man early Thursday and charged him with the shooting

death of Renee Russell.

Tahi A. Nelson, 40, of Coventry Boulevard NE in Canton, was arrested at 1:01 a.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of Yale Avenue NW on a warrant for charges of murder and having weapons while under disability.

Russell was found dead in early March in her 2009 Saturn Vue, which was parked in the 2300 block of Harmont Avenue NE. A passerby called police to report a body slumped over in a car.

Court records accuse Nelson of purposely shooting Russell but offer no other details about the crime.

Capt. Dave Davis, with the Canton Police Department, said police had been looking for Nelson since Russell was murdered.

Law enforcement responded to an unrelated aggravated menacing call this week, and information they received on that call led them to Nelson, who was hiding in an apartment.

Davis said police don’t have any information about the relationship between Nelson and Russell.

The property listed as Nelson’s home address on jail records is owned by Russell, according to the Stark County Auditor’s Office.

Nelson’s bond was set at $2.5 million. His arraignment is scheduled for Friday morning.
