Canton woman hit, robbed in front of children

Stark County sheriff’s deputies arrested a suspect Sunday.

CANTON TWP. Stark County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Sunday on multiple felony charges after a woman reported he beat her while she drove a vehicle with children in the back seat.

Robert T. Jenkins, 32, of Carnahan Avenue NE, was jailed on charges of robbery, felony domestic violence, disrupting public service and child endangering.

Deputies arrested Jenkins at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday in the 3000 block of Eighth Street NE, where the vehicle stopped after running out of gas, according to jail records.

The woman told deputies that she was driving and Jenkins was her passenger, as were three children. She said Jenkins hit her several times and threatened her as she drove. She said he demanded her bank card and ordered her to drive to an ATM where he withdrew money.

Deputies were told that Jenkins took the woman’s cellphone, preventing her from calling for help. She finally was able to get help after the car ran out of gas, according to jail records.
