Canton Police arrest drive-by shootings suspect

First, police say, he was driving a stolen car full of young teens until he struck a building and ran away. Then, they say, he took part in drive-by shootings across two streets and then into a house.

CANTON A young man already in jail accused of striking a building in a stolen car full of teen passengers is now accused of two drive-by shootings, Stark County Jail and court records show.

According to court records, Tyrontae T. Butler, 18, of Seventh Street NE, is believed to have fired several shots across the 1000 block of Shorb Ave NW and the 900 block of 11th Street NW at a moving motor vehicle on May 13.

He is also accused of shooting into an occupied home in the 900 block of 11th Street NW that same day.

Butler was charged at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday in connection with those shootings, arrested on warrants charging him with complicity to improperly discharging a firearm and discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited premises.

He has been in jail since May 20 after running from police on Oxford Avenue NW, jail and Canton Police reports show.
