OhioMeansJobs offices close to public

Employees will be in the office to answer telephones and email.
CANTON Local offices for OhioMeansJobs will close to the public for the next two weeks but employees will be coming to work.
OhioMeansJobs offices throughout the state have been closing public access because of the coronavirus, said Jennifer Meek Eells, executive director for offices in Stark and Tuscarawas counties.
Public access will be closed from March 18 until April 5 at the OhioMeansJobs Stark and Tuscarawas County Centers and the Stark Tuscarawas Workforce Development Board offices at 822 30th St. NW in Canton and 1260 Monroe St. NW in New Philadelphia. The dates are in tandem with the school closing announced last week.
Employees will be in the office to handle telephone calls and respond to email.
“We want to be here for our businesses and our job seekers,” Meek Eells said.
People who need to apply for unemployment insurance can file forms online. The local offices doesn’t take walk-in applications.
Many of the other services provided by the OhioMeansJobs locations can be accessed online. Meek Eells said office staff will be able to post job orders from different companies and answer questions for job seekers.
The Canton office for OhioMeansJobs also provides space for the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Goodwill, the Financial Prosperity Center operated by United Way of Greater Stark County and other agencies. Meek Eells said all of those groups opted to have staff work from home
or relocate to a main office.
“Everyone’s safety is our biggest concern at this time,” Meek Eells said.
